Fortnite Battle Royale

Fortinite

Fortnite Battle Royale is a free-to-play battle royale video game developed and published by Epic Games. It was released as an early access game for Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in September 2017, and for iOS, Nintendo Switch, and Android in 2018. It is a spin-off from Epic's Fortnite: Save the World, a cooperative survival game with construction elements.

As a battle royale game, Fortnite Battle Royale features up to 100 players, alone, in duos, or in squads of up to four players, attempting to be the last player or group alive by killing other players or evading them, while staying within a constantly shrinking safe zone to prevent taking lethal damage from being outside it. Players start with no intrinsic advantages, and must scavenge for weapons and armor to gain the upper hand on their opponents. The game adds the construction element from Fortnite; players can break down most objects in the game world to gain resources they can use to build fortifications as part of their strategy. Limited-time modes are cycled through the game that introduce experimental or unconventional gameplay but otherwise follow the battle royale "last player standing" goal. The game features cross-platform play between the platforms that was limited for the first five seasons, before the restrictions were eased.

The idea for Fortnite Battle Royale arose following the release of the similar battle royale game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, which saw numerous player count records broken throughout 2017. Seeing its rapid growth and commercial success, Epic Games saw the opportunity to create a battle royale mode of their own. Originally released as part of the paid Fortnite game, Epic spun out a dedicated version of the game offered as free-to-play funded by microtransactions, sharing in-game currency with the main Fortnite game, allowing players to buy or earn cosmetic items to customize their character. As of July 2018, the game has seen over 125 million players, and has been estimated to have earned more than US$1 billion in microtransactions. Fortnite Battle Royale has become a cultural phenomenon, with streams of the game achieving record-high viewerships, and with several high-profile celebrities stating their appreciation of the game.

ASSASSIN'S CREED ODYSSEY

AssasinCreed

Triton Noir, the studio behind the V-Commandos board game series, is gearing up to capture the spirit of Assassin's Creed in a dynamic, tactical board game. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood of Venice brings players back to Renaissance-era Italy, where they'll assume the roles of Assassins working together to infiltrate Templar strongholds.
Cell 1

Featuring a mix of new and familiar characters, the game lets players navigate its scenarios with detailed miniatures, as well as cards representing actions, items, and events. Brotherhood of Venice is being co-created by three former Ubisoft employees: Triton Noir founder Thibaud de la Touanne; story designer Fabrice Lamidey, who was creative director on Assassin's Creed Initiates, as well as one of the designers of the Nephilim role-playing game; and co-author Manuel Rozoy, also lead designer of the board game TIME Stories.

BATTLEFIELD 5

5

Battlefield 5 opens with a solemn prologue in which you play as a series of doomed soldiers dying in increasingly horrible ways. Its intent, I presume, is to evoke the futility and horror of war. But it feels out of place in a game where you can wear a Union Jack gas mask, jump out of a plane in mid-air, land on your feet, then whack a Nazi over the head with a cricket bat.

Developer DICE can’t seem to decide if war is hell, or just cool as hell, which creates some wild tonal dissonance. The notoriously chaotic Battlefield is by no means an accurate approximation of a real, gruelling war, which makes a soldier’s agonised screams of “I wanna go home!” as he bleeds out just seem a bit tasteless. The Swedish studio needs to own the fact that its game is really just a fun, silly, knockabout shooter, because that what it does best.
V

In the thick of a firefight, with planes screaming overhead, tanks trundling by, and sniper scopes glinting in the distance, Battlefield 5 can be exhilarating. And the dense, detailed maps only add to the turmoil, particularly the post-apocalyptic Devastation, which is set among the shattered ruins of a bombed-out Rotterdam. With 64 players fighting together, few multiplayer games are this frenzied. And a welcome return to World War II brings back fond memories of the first wave of Battlefield games.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG)

PUB

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is an online multiplayer battle royale game developed and published by PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of South Korean video game company Bluehole. The game is based on previous mods that were created by Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene for other games using the film Battle Royale for inspiration, and expanded into a standalone game under Greene's creative direction. In the game, up to one hundred players parachute onto an island and scavenge for weapons and equipment to kill others while avoiding getting killed themselves. The available safe area of the game's map decreases in size over time, directing surviving players into tighter areas to force encounters. The last player or team standing wins the round.

The game was first released for Microsoft Windows via Steam's early access beta program in March 2017, with a full release on December 20, 2017. That same month, the game was released by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox One via its Xbox Game Preview program, and officially released in September 2018. The same year, two different mobile versions based on the game for Android and iOS were release as well as plans for a port for the PlayStation 4. The game is one of the best-selling of all time, with over fifty million sold across all platforms by June 2018. In addition, the Windows version holds a peak concurrent player count of over three million on Steam, which is an all-time high on the platform.

Battlegrounds is a player versus player shooter game in which up to one hundred players fight in a battle royale, a type of large-scale last man standing deathmatch where players fight to remain the last alive. Players can choose to enter the match solo, duo, or with a small team of up to four people. In either case, the last person or team left alive wins the match.

Each match starts with players parachuting from a plane onto a map area approximately 8 × 8 kilometres (5.0 × 5.0 mi) in size. The plane's flight path across the map varies with each round, requiring players to quickly determine the best time to eject and parachute to the ground. Players start with no gear beyond customized clothing selections which do not affect gameplay. Once they land, players can search buildings, ghost towns and other sites to find weapons, vehicles, armor, and other equipment. These items are procedurally distributed throughout the map at the start of a match, with certain high-risk zones typically having better equipment. Killed players can be looted to acquire their gear as well. Players can opt to play either from the first-person or third-person perspective, each having their own advantages and disadvantages in combat and situational awareness; though server-specific settings can be used to force all players into one perspective to eliminate some advantages.

Every few minutes, the playable area of the map begins to shrink down towards a random location, with any player caught outside the safe area taking damage incrementally, and eventually being eliminated if the safe zone is not entered in time; in game, the players see the boundary as a shimmering blue wall that contracts over time. This results in a more confined map, in turn increasing the chances of encounters. During the course of the match, random regions of the map are highlighted in red and bombed, posing a threat to players who remain in that area. In both cases, players are warned a few minutes before these events, giving them time to relocate to safety. At random, a plane will fly over various parts of the playable map and drop a loot package, containing items which are typically unobtainable during normal gameplay. These packages emit highly visible red smoke, drawing interested players near it and creating further confrontations. On average, a full round takes no more than 30 minutes.

At the completion of each round, players gain in-game currency based on how long they survived, how many other players they had killed, and how much damage they dealt to other players. The currency is used to purchase crates which contain cosmetic items for character or weapon customization. A rotating "event mode" was added to the game around March 2018. These events change up the normal game rules, such as establishing larger teams or squads, or altering the distribution of weapons and armor across the game map.

Counter-Strike Global Offensive

CSGO

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) expands upon the team-based first person shooter gameplay the original Counter-Strike pioneered when it launched in 1999. Two teams compete in multiple rounds of objective-based game modes with the goal of winning enough rounds to win the match.

CS:GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic Counter-Strike maps like Dust, Inferno, Nuke, Train, and more. In addition, CS:GO introduces new game modes like Arms Race, Flying Scoutsman and Wingman, and features online matchmaking and Competitive Skill Groups.

Currently the second most popular game on steam, game has a daily peak concurrent players base over 600,000.

Game Modes

Competitive
This is the classic game mode that put Counter-Strike on the map. Two teams of five compete in a best-of-30 match using standard competitive Counter-Strike rules.
Players must purchase armor, weapons, defuse or rescue kits, and manage their in-game economy to maximize their chance of success. The first team to win 16 rounds in either Bomb Defusal or Hostage Rescue game modes wins the match.
Competitive offers unique Skill Groups players can earn and display, beginning with Silver 1 and progressing up to The Global Elite. Join a match on your own or form a team and queue for a match together!

Wingman
Queue by yourself or grab a friend in this 2v2 best-of-16 game mode on single bomb site maps. Players earn a Skill Group exclusive to Wingman and play using the Competitive Bomb Defusal ruleset. Buy weapons, armor, and defuse kits in an effort to plant the bomb or defend the bomb site!

Casual
Ready to play some Counter-Strike but don’t want to commit to a full 30 round match? Find a Casual match and play at your own pace in this drop-in, drop-out game mode.
In Casual mode players automatically receive armor and defusal kits, play with a simplified economy, and team damage has been turned off. Join a game and begin mastering CS:GO’s fundamentals!

Deathmatch
This fast-paced Casual game mode allows instant respawns and encourages rapid engagements. After spawning, players have a limited amount of time to buy weapons of their choice and engage the enemy.
Kills with different weapons are worth different point amounts, and throughout the match players will be given bonus points for achieving kills with selected weapons. Respawn immediately and get back to the fight!

Arms Race
Arms race is a gun-progression mode featuring instant respawning designed for rapid close quarters combat.
Players gain new weapons immediately after registering a kill as they work their way through each weapon in the game. Get a kill with the final weapon, the golden knife, and win the match!

Demolition
In Demolition players take turns attacking and defending a single bombsite in a series of maps designed for fast-paced gameplay.
Players are automatically granted a starting weapon and advance through a sequence of firearms when they register a kill. The more kills you earn the further you’ll advance towards stronger weapons which give your team an advantage, like powerful sniper rifles!

Flying Scoutsman
This Casual 8v8 game mode features reduced gravity, does not penalize players for shooting while moving, and only allows two weapons – SSG 08 sniper rifles and knives. Take to the skies and eliminate your enemies; the first team to 9 rounds wins!
